( votes)Review AVG Antivirus in 2022 Review: Quick Expert Summary
UPDATE: AVG’s web extensions were removed by Google and Mozilla. A scandal erupted which revealed that Avast, who also owns AVG, had been selling millions of dollars’ worth of user data to corporations. We can’t recommend them on this site due to their unethical behavior. Read more about the controversy here and our decision. This list contains the top 10 antiviruses for 2022.
AVG is a well-known brand that has a strong reputation for security. But did you know that AVG offers three products to protect your privacy and help you run your computer faster?
AVG is also one the most affordable on the market. This means you can get great protection for multiple devices at a single price. It isn’t the best, but it doesn’t compare to McAfee and Norton.
Security
AVG’s ability to consistently be at the top of antivirus product testing lists impressed me first. These lab tests found that AVG prevented every attack it detected. It also stopped 99% of attacks it didn’t know existed. Also known as zero-day or “zero-day” attacks. This is important as many times, your computer is not attacked by well-known viruses but by new methods that antiviruses do not know about. AVG received excellent scores from Virus bulletin and is proud to be a member of the VB100 List. AVG ranks at the same level as Avast but is higher than large names such as McAfee, Kaspersky and BitDefender.
Antivirus Scanner Is Always on in the Background
AVG’s powerful antivirus is your first line of defense against malware attacks and hacks. It protects you from a wide range of common exploits. AVG’s antivirus scanner is always active and keeps track of all changes made to files or folders. This ensures that nothing goes unnoticed.
Turbo Scans can speed up your scans, and they ignore files and folders that AVG has already examined. AVG antivirus will send any detected problems to the ThreatLab team for analysis and notification to the rest of AVG network.
Enhanced Firewall Offers Protection from Ransomware
AVG is much more than an antivirus. AVG also offers its Enhanced Firewall which prevents any suspicious activity or traffic from reaching your computer.
AVG protects against ransomware which is becoming increasingly popular and can be very dangerous. Ransomware protection is provided by regular scans and an encrypted folder. This allows you to store your most important files, photos, and other information so that no one can steal them. These files can be modified by any program you choose.
Payment Protection Watches Your Email for Scams
AVG’s Payments Security was the last thing that impressed me. AVG’s products monitor your email for potential spam and scams, which are used as a cover for fraud. AVG will immediately notify you if it detects suspicious websites you visit and shop on. This will help you to avoid losing your password.
Ease of use
AVG was initially confusing to me, but I soon figured out the program’s simple interface. Five large cards on the main screen of AVG tell you how protected each part of your computer is. These cards include “Computer,” Web & Email, and many other information. These cards are not buttons; they indicate the current status of each component. These cards are updated when a scan of a particular sector is complete. You can begin a scan by simply pressing the button at bottom of screen. You can customize the scans you run by choosing how often and how thorough they should be. Additionally, you can automate them. Although it would be great if each category could be accessed directly from the main screen’s large cards, I found that installing AVG and using it was easy.
Support
AVG offers two levels of support. Premium and basic. Basic service allows you to access the company’s knowledgebase, which provides answers to common questions and questions that other users have asked. You can also interact with other users in the community forum to share your problems and find solutions. Premium users have access to the company’s 24/7 premium support line. There is also a helpful live chat. Although the support staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, I wish that basic users could have access to the same level. However, I was able find the answers to most questions and all of the support agents who I spoke with were very helpful in solving my problems. Premium and free users can contact AVG directly through the AVG website’s email ticket system. Although these responses can take several days, they often contain useful information to resolve any outstanding issues.
Pricing
AVG’s pricing policy is another thing I love about them. AVG’s Internet Security and Ultimate plans allow you to protect as many devices you like, which is a great deal. You can also choose to have AVG’s antivirus protection on one device, even if it is not your first choice. The Internet Security option is a good deal if you browse the internet often and want more protection. It offers great tools to protect your online activities. The Ultimate plan will cost you slightly more, but you get the best optimization tools AVG has, along with live chat and premium support. Internet Security is likely to be the best value for most consumers.
